6 Top Tips to Fight off Colds and the Flu

January 8, 2018 by kareenkarol Leave a Comment

the best defence against colds and the flu kareenkarol.com colds flu vitamin d

Do you dread back to school, back to work and back to day care days simply because of what germs your will kids pick up and share with you. With out even realizing it you are dealing with illness in the house that can spread to everyone.

The Best Defense is a Healthy Immune system

The best solution to combat these germs are a healthy Immune system and Healthy Gut.  This is something that I have been working on with my  children for the past few years.  At this stage in their lives they often choose poor quality foods, but I know that what they are taught in their youth they will go back to when they are grown. Also for many of us we may not think about our own heath but when we have children we start seriously thinking about their health. Therefor our health becomes more important when we have children and want to keep them and us healthy.

My 6 top Flu and Cold fighting Tips are

  1. Drink Good Quality Water. – We serve mainly water in our house.  Right now we use well water and have a 10 step  reverse osmosis system with the minerals added back in . Water is VERY important to our health.
  2. Food we can grow – Eating food that we can grow.  Whether you grow it yourself or buy it fresh food is the best.
  3. Multivitamin – A multivitamin that has a potency guarantee and is bioavailable. This is what I use with my children Usanimals   (To  find out more click on shop.)
  4. Less Precessed food- Understanding the difference between real food that is grown in the ground, and packaged food that  is made in a factory.
  5. Eat Less Sugar – The less processed sugar the better it is for you body. Sugar in fruit is different then sugar that is in something that is man made. Our bodies know what to do with the sugar that is in a fruit with out all of the chemicals to process.
  6. Lots of Vitamin D –  either through the Sun or by taking a Good quality (do research) vitamin d .  I use this Vitamin D for myself and my children.  (click on Shop to see more)

We live in a world that allows us to have any information that we want available right at our finger tips,  Google is our friend.  Do research and choose what are the best solutions for you and your family.

Our children can understand from a very young age that food which is grown naturally is better for their health and makes good bacteria in their guts which in turn makes their immune system stronger and their brains to be able to function clearer.  If children can understand the difference between healthy and non healthy foods, then it is our job as the providers of the food to eat and serve healthy food to our children.

Do your best each and everyday and you will be a success in all areas of your life.

Blessings Kareen

June 29, 2017 by kareenkarol Leave a Comment

Cooking is not always a favourite activity for me however having 4 children requires me to cook. Here is a recipe  for a good and easy supper with great tasting leftovers.

Brown, Ground Beef and set aside

In a pot with a small amount of water slice

3-4 med potatoes

1-2 carrots

1 small onion

Frozen Peas

3-4 Mushrooms

Bring to boil and let it cook until the vegetables are soft.  Strain out any excess water.  Add the browned Beef into the pot.

Add Salt and Pepper

Add Sour Cream until you like the flavour, if you want more sauce leave some of the water in with the vegetables.

Enjoy!

6 Tips For Travelling with Kids – Road Trip

October 24, 2016 by kareenkarol Leave a Comment

road-trip-family-fun-kareenkarol-com

Do you ever do things that afterward you think, What the heck was I thinking?

How about travelling with 4 children, for the weekend, to another city to stay in a hotel room, does that sound like fun or a gong show?

Sometimes I can romantisize  it and think “what great memories that we are giving the kids”, sometimes it is out of guilt, “that they all will want to go” and sometimes it is because I just want them all to come along. Although it can seem a bit like a gong show at times , here is how I get through it and hopefully make it a great experience!

6 tips to make the weekend a success.

  • Book a hotel that has breakfast, this room we just last weekend was a smaller room, actually a room that is too small for all 6 of us. By having the breakfast room available it was the way that the whole experience was doable for us. As we woke up each of us was able to sneak out to the breakfast room so the others could still sleep.
  • Take some supplies, before I left the house I tossed in a few paper plates, a bowl and some forks. I knew that we would be eating in the hotel room some and I wanted to have a few items with us to make it easier. We did buy groceries at Costco, these few items I brought helped us to make the meals easier.
  • Bring something for the kids to do– Although my children are getting bigger the trip of 2.5 hours can seem to get long. A 2 hour trip seems easier, but that extra half hour just adds the opportunity for some fighting in the van before we get to our final destination .
  • Get a hotel room that has enough room for all of you. I usually do this and this time I didn’t… ask for a family room, sometimes the cost is minimal to do the upgrade for more space.
  • Get a hotel with a swimming pool, this helps the kids to get tired out as well a way for the family to great exercise.
  • Before you leave home – search out what the city has for fun for the kids to do. Each city will have a list on the city website of some of the activities in there city as well Google it and you will find out what other people recommend for you to do in the city that you are going to.

Family time can be fun, but it can also be crazy.  I do remind my self many times while in such close quarters that I need to remain calm and patient. EXAMPLE when they continually jump from bed to bed and sometimes jump on the person sitting on the bed.  A FUN manager… that is what I become… lol

Enjoy the times you have with your kids, one day not to far in the future, they will no longer be travelling with you. You will think back to the days that you are experiencing now and wonder where the time went.

Importance of Family

Family what does that word mean to you. According to the dictionary it means “all the descendants of a common ancestor”.  For some that would be true and for others their family is a group of close friends that are as close as family members would be. When I was young I had a smaller family and we were close, my paternal grandparents and aunt were at all birthday.s and Christmas’s.  My  fraternal family was much larger but we did not have as many gatherings.

My childhood was full of my immediate family with myself and 4 siblings, we always had someone to play, fight or work with.  At one point in my growing up years my paternal grandparents and aunt passed away and our family became even smaller with just my parents and siblings. That was strange for all of us as that older generation was gone and there was just us.

As time went by my family started to grow again with marriage my family of 5 children increased to 10 people and with our parents that made 12.  Now what seems to only be a few years later we have increase to 31 with 19 grandchildren for my parents. Our family continues to get closer as the years go by, the easily judged situations in the past just don’t seem to matter any more.  We are growing in love for each other as time goes by.

Here are a couple of tips that I believe has helped to keep our family unit strong.

  1. Family and family gatherings are important.
  2. Forgive and move on, not everyone is going to like everything that each person does, there are 31 of us remember.
  3. You are always related to the same people no matter what, make the best of it.

Time changes everything and the family will change over time as well.  Enjoy each stage of your life and your family for what it is.

Life live to the fullest ,
